If you’re looking for something to do in Kuopio this weekend, you need to check out Satoa Kuopio Food Festival. It is a street food event celebrating the harvest season and local flavours. The streets are packed with performers, music and delicious, locally produced dishes from Northern Savonia – all bite size. I had not been to a food festival in Finland before so I was excited to visit and try out many local flavours from my hometown.
And as you may know, having small portions as a meal is right down my alley – it’s almost like sharing a bunch of appetisers for supper. All small portions are from 3-6 €/each and there are over twenty different restaurant tents. We visited and tried quite a few…
STALL 2. VS RAVINTOLAT
Starting with this black chanterelle risotto with barley from Hussola, tangy lemon zest and thyme.
STALL 16. & 17. EHTA AND FRANS & SOPHIE
Tender-cooked lamb, lovage aioli, veggies and herbs in Hanna Partanen pie crust.
STALL 6. VIA GOURMET
Bruschetta from Savonia; crispy toast, crayfish, smoked vendace mayo and shoots.
STALL 19. RAUHALAHTI
Log driver’s slow-cooked beef with malt and whisky sauce, oven-baked veggies and autumn cabbage.
STALL 3. INTRO
Nut kibbeh made with Barley from Myllylä farm and topped with lemon yoghurt.
STALL 12. LÄHIRUOKASNÄGÄRI
Breaded pike perch from Kallavesi lake with potato cakes, coleslaw, smashed peas and herb yoghurt sauce. Not very pretty, but very tasty.
STALL 10. VIIKINKIRAVINTOLA HARALD
Pork ribs from Harald’s Smoke Sauna; Finnish, smoked pork ribs drizzled with herb and chilli oil. Roasted root vegetables by Lempyy from Suonenjoki and apple and mustard seed compote.
STALL 19. RAUHALAHTI
Smoked vendace mousse from the smoke sauna with rye chip and pickled cucumber.
You’ll be tempted to try everything if you go for a share & share sort of deal you might just be able to. So bring a friend, or make one there 🙂
STALL 5. KUMMISETÄ
Honeyed carrot cake, carrot caramel with orange-flavoured crème fraîche.
STALL 9. HOUKUTUS
Pavlova; red currants from the garden and salted caramel sauce.
STALL 19. RAUHALAHTI
Savotta-Sanni’s blackcurrant cake with roasted white chocolate.
STALL 21. ISO VALKEINEN
Orange-seasoned raspberry cheesecake.
Well worth a visit if you’re in the area. Still on tonight till 9 pm, and tomorrow (Saturday 27.08.2016) from 11 am-8 pm.
Come hungry and bring cash. You won’t regret it.
