Q & A

Q & A - Get to know me! Karoliina Kazi

I wanted to do something a little bit different today. I think sometimes when writing you feel like everyone already knows so much about you when actually, there’s so much that doesn’t get mentioned in the blog posts. So, I thought it would be really nice to share something about myself in a Q & A.

Hope you enjoy!

A great day begins with (out) the snooze button and with the smell of coffee.

The last song I listened to on repeat was Tez Cadey’s Seve. I love the summer vibes and the African Children’s Choir.

Home is Parsons Green London, but I was born in Turku, then grew up in Kuopio, Finland. Finland still feels like home to me and I dream of moving back there, eventually.

My middle name is Maria, its the most common name in Finland – it goes well with Karoliina and I love it – thanks, Mum & Dad.

A nickname only my family uses is Minkoo. That’s Riz’s pet name for me. My dad used to call me Kaisu when I was little.

Earliest London memory – I came here for university interviews in 2007 with two Swedish friends and we got totally lost in the tube. And on that same trip, I brushed my teeth with cortisone by accident (I may have been slightly hungover).

Most iconic Londoner is Queen Elizabeth II – it’s her 92nd birthday today.

I collect Beatrix Potter 50p coins for Riz. They’re rare so always check your 50p’s.

My most prized possession is a box of old letters and photographs, without a doubt. And a book where my Mum had saved every single card, letter and email we exchanged during my years abroad.

3 qualities I cherish in my friends are loyalty, sense of humour and trust.

My funniest friend is my childhood friend Annukka, not only is she one of the sweetest and kindest people I know, she always makes me laugh.

I get annoyed when I forget a canvas shopper at home and only realise it at the grocery store. I really don’t like to buy plastic bags. People who come too close when queuing… it’s a personal space thing and quite common in the cold north where I come from.

I’m angry when I see or read about animal cruelty – and arrogant people without manners drive me crazy!

To de-stress I put away my computer, have a massage or listen to music. In Finland, I like to walk in the forest.

Happiness is lie-ins and lazy breakfast. Honestly, they’re priceless. Cuddles with our little Yorkshire terrier Annie. Seeing my friends and family happy.

I miss my Mum, every day.

If I could be remembered for one thing, I would like it to be being a good person to my friends, husband and family.

I’m proud of my companionship with my husband Riz. We met in New York 13 years ago. I can laugh with him, cry with him and grow with him. He makes me feel enough even with all of my shortcomings.

My favourite memory from this year is a family hike in my favourite sanctuary in Kuopio, the Vuorilampi Nature Reserve.

The next place I want to travel is to India! Most of Riz’s family lives in Mumbai and we have a wedding to go to in August – I can’t wait!

Weekends are for those lie-ins, friends and trying new things.

My current favourite store is the always fav COS. Simple and easy peasy.

My current favourite restaurants are Chicama in Chelsea and Taqueria in Notting Hill. And I really want to try out Indian Accent in Mayfair.

My go-to cocktail at the moment is Aperol Spritz. A chilled glass of very pale rose comes close too. They’re both such good, refreshing summer drinks.

The camera I use for taking my blog pictures is my Canon 70D – I’m hoping to upgrade sometime soon, but for now, I love it!

And to edit my photos I use Lightroom, it’s so easy to use.

I like to photograph details, little moments and people. Taking pictures of people when travelling is not always easy but you just have to be brave and ask, or be a little sneaky 🙃 I have a lot to learn and brush up my photography skills is one my favourite things to do.

The number of pictures of my phone’s camera roll right now is 1,345. Not bad.

Did anything surprise you? Let me know some of your answers to these same questions in the comments. I’d love to know more about you too!

Such a wonderful reading Karoliina! I love learning about other bloggers and I would love to be in London right now! I don’t like people who don’t love animals, how can someone don’t love them?

    • 27th April 2018 / 10:56 pm

Exactly, animals are always better than humans. Thank you Helene 💗

Minkoo is such a lovely nickname! I thought you were born in Kuopio, didn’t know you’re Western-Finnish gal like I am haha!

    • 23rd April 2018 / 6:42 pm

Yes! My Mum was from Turku and my parents met there when Dad was working there – I lived there only for two years. But of course, half of my family still lives in Turku 🙂

Q&A’s reveal so much about a person I really enjoy reading them! Its an amazing when you feel pride in your relationship with your partner when you genuinely feel like it the two of you against the world!

    • 24th April 2018 / 12:45 pm

Thank you ❤️ I really do, it’s just the two of us here in London so we’re a team xx

I love reading posts like this because, you’re so right, there’s a lot we assume our readers already know when we’ve been blogging for a bit. It’s lovely to get acquainted (or reacquainted). I should do a post like this soon. 🙂

    • 27th April 2018 / 11:00 pm

Hi Beth – you definitely should, I would love to read it! 💗💗

  6. 25th April 2018 / 6:50 am

Lovely post! It was great to get to know you better. 🙂 That first experience of London made me laugh. Also, I’m a bit shocked that you find Lightroom easy. I know how to use it but I find Photoshop a lot easier. It took like two hours to figure out how to save photos from Lightroom haha. Thanks for sharing a bit more information about yourself! 🙂

    • 27th April 2018 / 11:02 pm

Thank you Nora 💗 I think it’s whatever program you get used to, I have no idea how to use photoshop. Youtube tutorials rock!
