Barefoot strolls across Praia da Marinha Beach

Algarve has everything you could want from a holiday. It is a region of hidden delights, Atlantic wilderness and endless series of some of the world’s most beautiful beaches.
You want to head off on a coastal drive in search of a perfect one.
From the town of Portimão, head east and follow your nose (aka Navigator) to Praia da Marinha.

After finding a spot for your car on the cliff top parking area, take a walk along the dirt track along the cliffs. You’ll find stunning postcard views of a shoreline of clear, inviting waters dotted with rock stacks, series of coves and caves for which the Algarve is best known.

The Praia da Marinha beach has been nominated one of the 10 best beaches in Europe by the Michelin Guide and its no wonder why; sprawling stretch of vanilla-white sand backed by vivid red cliffs and bulging multicoloured rock formations is simply, mesmerising.

Take the well-trodden, winding stone steps down to the beach, enjoy the golden beach, dive into the sparkling clear water, snorkel and sunbathe to your heart’s content. The beach has a little bar, but it’s a good idea to bring some water and fruit with you.

The Praia da Marinha beach is no secret and tends to be rather popular during the summer months. If you are brave enough, look for a little cave on the left side of the beach (near the entrance stairs). Climb in and follow the sandy tunnel…

You will find a quiet, hidden cove that offers a shady escape from the heat of the day. Which is just what we did.

OH MY GOD, that place looks like the dream! Reminded me of the Azure Window that was in Malta. Sad what happened to it though.

Yes! Something really similar here – we were in Malta this summer and drove to the point where the Azure window use to be… so sad it’s gone. The diving hole there was interesting (not that I dived in!!).

I’m so happy I was able to see it before it fell apart but it was something I would have wanted to show my kids one day – as it’s the place where J and I kind of you know, started to get to know to each other better. Now it’s a little too late 🙁

        • 4th September 2017 / 9:05 am

I know, it really is such a shame.. you can still take your kids to Malta and tell the story, I’m sure your kids will love it 🙂

      • 22nd February 2018 / 5:18 am

I hope it’s not as cold anymore during March! January and February have been super cold in here this month. Luckily, there is summertime coming soon so it will also be warm in Norh in couple of months. 😄
