I only returned from Spain yesterday but couldn’t wait to run over to Chelsea where the summer festivities have begun and the streets have been transformed with wonderful floral displays. There really is no better way to celebrate the start of the season than visiting Chelsea in Bloom, Chelsea’s prestigious annual floral art show. And this year, there seems to be a lot of love in the air following the Royal Wedding last weekend.
Chelsea in Bloom takes place at the same time as Chelsea Flower Show, but it’s free and open to everyone. The Cadogan and Royal Horticultural Society team up with local restaurants, shops and hotels to create breathtaking floral displays and compete to be the best in the show. The displays are judged and awarded by an expert panel along with the People’s Champion Award.
This year’s theme is ‘Summer of Love’, inspired by the Royal Wedding and the 60’s/70’s cultural revolution – from the Palace to the King’s Road! Last year’s theme Floral Safari was absolutely stunning so I really had high expectations.
Crab drink and collect your map from Sloane Square, or take a complimentary rickshaw ride around the area to catch a glimpse of some of the floral displays spilling to streets of Chelsea.
Or allow me to show you around…
I must say that the streets really were surrounded by love: everyone walking around Chelsea was smiling. The celebration of the Royal Wedding is still lingering in the air and where better to celebrate the funky 60’s vibes than King’s Road where the cultural revolution took place after 1967. And quite simply, flowers make people happy.
A tribute to the royal couple 💗
