The Charm of Villefranche-sur-Mer

The last weekend in August, we flew down to Cap d’Ail for a quick girls getaway with my friend Ana Laura. Us two have a lot in common, especially our love for exploring and travel so we had been planning the trip since the beginning of the summer and were excited to make it happen together. Cote d’Azur is a pretty wonderful place to wake up to and I knew Ana Laura would fall in love with the rocky French coastline that’s framed by green hillsides, white-washed villas, winding coastal roads and pastel coloured towns that spill into the sea.

All perfect reasons to visit again and again.

After the first unhurried day spent on our favourite beach, Eden Plage, we drove along the coast, through pretty little villages, heading to Villefranche-sur-Mer, which is one of the most delightful, picturesque fishing villages on the French Riviera.

Ana Laura and I were instantly in love with the soft-hued seaside village. Our eyes lit up when we arrived and saw the peachy winding streets scattered with colourful climbing flowers everywhere.

A layer of charm arrives with the heat that glows from the building and pavements. The sunshine glitters and brings the pastel coloured buildings to life. The beauty is captivating.

Villefranche-sur-Mer sits right beside the sea, giving the people who call it home the perfect marriage of village life and beach living. On the seafront, the local fishermen sell their catch each morning.

The village is really, really charming.

A walk around it will leave you relaxed and with a smile, I promise.

It looks absolutely stunning here, I would love to visit! The streets & coloured buildings are so picturesque. I’m looking out my window at snow right now, so a trip here sounds ideal!

That town really looks charming and uniquely beautiful! At the moment we’re in Nyon, Switzerland – you should definitely google this city because it’s quite similar to that. Everyone speaks French and the buildings are pretty must similar to the ones in France. And of course, this small town is full of charm as well. And btw I love your photos! I’m good at still lives but your landscapes are just amazing, I wish I’d learn to take similar ones. 🙂

Hello there, been a while since I visited your blog but what a great piece! The pictures are amazing (as usual) and you’ve sold this village to me. Now that I am thinking of travelling more, I know where to go for inspirations and ideas. Seems you and your friend know how to have a good time.

The town looks absolutely amazing! Ah, I’m going to have to add this on my bucket list – would be a perfect getaway location haha. Also, weirdly, it reminds me a bit or Cape Verde with all the narrow alleys and stuff. Just gorgeous!

Thank you Jasmin – this part of France is so easy and accessible to explore since there are so many (and usually very affordable) flights to Nice from pretty much everywhere. And it’s just so pretty there I can’t get over it.

I love your description of “soft-hued” because it is totally spot on. Reminds me of a dream sequence or a beautiful sunset.

Thank you, Beth ❤️ Sometimes it’s so hard to find the right words to describe things and as you know, I like to keep things quite light and fun on my blog 🙂 but yes, this village is definitely soft-hued and so perfectly crumbled.
