The Palomar – Soho

The cold and rather snippy weather being upon us you’ll want to find little hiding corners in the city. This Soho spot is a must try, and it will give your taste buds an unparalleled experience. Not to mention, it’s pretty cool to see the chefs creating the tempting dishes while you’re dining.

You’ll find a rectilinear space with a stylish 16 seat zinc kitchen bar that overlooks the chefs, and atmosphere that is both upbeat and easy. There is a sophisticated and intimate dining room at the back with parquet floors, wood panelled walls and royal blue leather seating.

We took our seats at the bar and the charming staff explained the menu to us with their recommendations.

The Palomar serves the food of modern day Jerusalem. A menu influenced by the rich cultures of Southern Spain, North Africa and the Levant.

Kubaneh Yemeni pot baked bread soft and tearable, perfect mopped in tahini & velvet tomatoes. Order another fantastic side dish to go with it – Burnt Courgette Tzatziki with mint, garlic, sumac, olive oil, lemon & almonds.

Beetroot Carpaccio burnt goat’s cheese, crunchy hazelnut brittle, lentil tuile & pomegranate molasses vinaigrette. Intense flavours, so much colour, soft textures and just the right amount of crunch: this will be my new go-to appetiser for hosting dinner parties. I’m going to master a version of it and I’ll share as soon as I nail it.

Delicious Shakshukit deconstructed kebab with minced beef & lamb, yoghurt, tahini, cured lemon & harissa.

This one is a real gem. Creamy polenta with crunchy Jerusalem Style asparagus, mushroom ragout, parmesan & truffle oil. Melts in your mouth.

I could have ordered this twice. Grilled to perfection octopus, chickpea msabacha & burnt aubergine.

If you are looking for an exhilarating and buzzy spot with one of the best and seasonally changing menus in the city, look no further. You can thank me later.
