Boxing Day Sleigh Ride

On Boxing Day morning we wrapped up in our coats and drove to the very top of Kuopio.

Tapaninpäivän aamuna kääriydyimme toppatakkeihimme ja ajoimme Kuopion korkeimmalle kohdalle.

Following the Boxing Day traditions of the past.

Seuraten entisaikojen Tapaninpäivän perinteitä.

A sleigh ride in the snow with family and friends.

Lumisella rekiretkellä perheen ja ystävien kesken.

Tucked in, side by side, under a warm reindeer skin.

Vieri vieressä peiteltynä lämpimän porontaljan alla.

Sparkling, snow covered trees flying past in the perfectly silent forest.

Täydellisen hiljaisessa metsässä ohikiisivät lumessa kimaltavat puut.

And us, wallowing in our little winter wonderland.

Ja me taljan alla nauttien tästä upeasta talven ihmemaasta.

After our snowy adventure through the forests and fields, we warmed up beside the fireplace in the cottage cafe.

Lumisen seikkailumme jälkeen menimme kahvilaan lämmittelemään leivinuunin lämpöön.

With coffee and cinnamon buns.

Kahvin ja korvapuustien kera.

After melting our bones inside the cafe we drove over to Puijo tower which is only 1 km away. The area offers many winter activities from cross country skiing to Nordic walking and even meeting Santa Claus by the Puijo tower in the evenings.

That looks absolutely breath-taking. How do you cope with the intense cold and the short days?

The weather was quite warm during Christmas so we had no problem with temperatures. When its very cold you need to wear proper warm clothing if going out for longer. Not having much daylight is hard for most people so you really need to make most of the few hours – and remember that the short days are replaced with midnight sun in the summer 🙂

I’m so jealous! It’s winter here, too, but the temps are fluctuating so much that we’ve only had one snowfall and it hasn’t quite stuck yet.

We had the same thing, but it did eventually stay 🙂 Keeping my fingers crossed for some snow for you! xx

I keep dreaming of a white Christmas. You’re one lucky girl. I will definitely have one plus the sleigh ride. I love all the photos 🙂
